Shaman Productions was born out of the ambition of an ensemble of actors who want to be in control of the creative offerings of their time. Shaman creates courageous new works that capture and inspire the modern world - shaking audiences out of complacency and daring us all to embrace the shocking, thrilling, hilarious, awesome world we find ourselves living in.
Shaman Productions is the next generation of contemporary performance, committed to creating gutsy new works that are blatantly honest, bravely illuminating and bloody fun.
With two Australian theatrical premieres, a short film in post-production and a one-of-a-kind youth theatre in education program, Shaman Productions is steadily building a reputation as a fresh, dynamic company focused on producing exciting theatrical experiences for Sydney audiences.
The ensemble's aim is to tell modern stories, to shape a new kind of story for a new kind of time and to redefine the value of art and culture for now and the future.
The little bit of genius in the PIA program is that it brings to the next generation a chance to appreciate language, culture, story and theatre while they sit in their cosy cramped class rooms and fiddle with their boredoms. This brings to Shaman some nice old brand recognition in the market of tomorrow, and brings to the world a future of fresh minds educated and excited about stories, imagination and expression.
Reaching for the Shaman revolution in a market cluttered with tight minds, tight purses and a society sedated from culture continues to be the major challenge for Shaman. While Shaman flexes it's imagination in delivering the most current far out damn exciting experiences in theatre and film, in it's little engine room is the hum of hardworking volunteers getting (at this stage) little to no pay for their sweat and dedication while they persist on growing Shaman to its full potential and developing a track record of awesome work.
Yet in a small industry that supports only the lucky few, that exists in a country which sees little value in what it offers, and that is perpetually under resourced, what audacity is required to create an organisation that dares to challenge all this and dares to exist of its own accord?
Welcome to Shaman Productions. We dare.
