Why
Poetry in Action?
"A
poem should not mean
But be"
Archibald McLiesh
Poetry is
one of the most important parts of the English syllabus. It can also
be one of the hardest subjects for students to grasp.
Too often poetry is approached as though it is literature intended to be studied and read.
Often it is not.
Poems
are meant to be read out loud.
Poetry is a vocal score which has value on the page - like a musical score - but in the same way poetry, like music, is ultimately designed to be performed and heard by an audience.
And that is the basis of our shows - communicating the thoughts, feelings and ideas of a poem to an audience through the use of accomplished performers.
When a poem is presented to you by professional actors live on stage,
things change.
Meanings become clearer.
Words are no longer
just letters on a page - they become the thoughts, feelings and insights
of the poet.
That is when your students are given a true and visceral insight into
their poems of study.
Shaman
Productions' rehearsed poetry readings and workshops are the perfect way
to energise, enlighten and engage your students.
