There is a riot going on outside. Two men are locked in a cell together. Their crimes are unknown and their sentences are uncertain.
The play explores the complex relationships established when two very damaged souls come to care very deeply for each other. It is a deeply emotional play that acknowledges the roles and postures that men adopt to survive, but plunges past all that to the core of confusion, need, and loneliness that boils beneath the surface. Within the darkness of this play exists a healing force of love and honour.

It's time to sort the men from the monkeys. Phillip spends his days studying primate behaviour; his current subject is the Gorilla, man's second closest cousin. He need not look far for inspiration.
His father, Robbo, is fifty five going on sixteen and will forever be 'one of the boys'; brother-in-law Dave is convinced the key to a successful marriage is to earn more than his wife; while Rex attempts to prove his virility through amorous encounters with anything that moves. With role models like these, what's a boy to do when he meets a nice girl? Does he rise above the monkey business and woo her like a gentleman? Or does he employ gorilla tactics to land his mate? And what will the beautiful Chelsea think of him - champ, chump or chimp?
From the pen of Caleb Lewis (Nailed, Dogfall ) Men, Love and the Monkeyboy is a sharp serving of satire on fathers, sons and male bonding. Delving into the way men see themselves and see each other, the way they love and the way they hurt, this play will leave you questioning just how removed we are from our simian siblings.

"a very fine production, exceptionally well cast and performed. 8/10" Sun Herald
"Love and Money, with this excellent cast, is vibrant and darkly humorous..." Daily Telegraph
"a very fine cast in a very taught production of a wonderful piece of writing." Australian Stage
Following critically acclaimed productions of Debris and Osama the Hero -the dark, funny, but surprisingly beautiful Dennis Kelly seems to have found an Australian spiritual home in the rough theatre of The Old Fitzroy.
The Australian premiere of Love and Money by acclaimed British playwright Dennis Kelly, unravels the marriage of a young couple as they make every effort to survive in an ever-expanding consumerist society. Blackly humorous but heart-wrenching, Love and Money attempts to calculate the fiscal sustainability of love in a world hard-wired for economic growth.
